Test Description
While there are many potential causes of premature ovarian failure, Ovarian Dysgenesis (ODG) accounts for roughly half of the known POF cases, and ODG Type 2 – also called X-linked hypergonadotropic ovarian failure – is known to be specifically caused by heterozygous mutations in the Bone Morphogenetic Protein 15 gene (BMP15).
ACGT’s BMP15 Gene Test consists of genomic DNA extraction from patient buccal swabs, followed by PCR amplification and bidirectional DNA sequencing of both exons of the BMP15 gene plus ~50 bp of flanking non-coding DNA on either side of each exon.
Indications
Candidates for this test are individuals of child-bearing age with primary or secondary amenorrhea and normal 46, XX karyotype, and relatives of patients with a verified BMP15 germline mutation.
Sensitivity
Depending on the population, anywhere from 1 to 10% of individuals with primary or secondary amenorrhea have been found to have a mutation in the BMP15 gene.
Ordering
The BMP15 gene test is self-administered and can be completed at the convenience of your home. Either the individual test-taker or a physician may request a kit by completing the Test Kit Request Form.
Included in our test kit you will find a Test Requisition Form. You must complete this form and enclose it in your return parcel to ACGT Molecular Diagnostics.
